F*ck the Gatekeepers
I gave myself the key.
Recently someone asked me what motivated me to start this newsletter. There were several reasons, but the one that popped into my mind first as I was responding to this particular DM was, “Mostly frustration! At gatekeepers!”
I’ll also add resentment. Oh, and there’s some rage in there, too.
A few years ago I wrote a book proposal for a memoir about my experience being diagnosed with and going through treatment for ovarian cancer. I sent it out to agents. A lot of agents. Most of the responses I got fell into the following three camps:
