I’m feeling under the weather this week, so today’s newsletter is going to be short and sweet.
Whenever I get sick, I try to identify how it happened. Over the weekend I went into Manhattan, where I got together with a large group of people. But I’ve homed in on the subway as the actual scene of the germ-spreading “crime” — first of all, I was sitting down smooshed next to someone who hacked out a cough without any attempt to cover their mouth, and at another point I was holding a subway pole before absentmindedly rubbing my eye (ew).
In any case, since Sunday I’ve been exhausted, with a sore throat, light body aches, and no appetite. The good news is: I took a rapid-test yesterday and it’s not COVID! But whatever it is, it’s causing me to draaaaaaaaggggg through this week.
I tend to get tired easily, but having even-less-than-normal levels of energy is really frustrating. It’s frustrating that while basic self-care is always a struggle for me, it’s even harder now. And it’s frustrating that I’ve been trying to get into some kind of consistent exercise routine, but so far this week, no exercise at all has taken place.
Getting sick is often a time when I recommit to self-care, because not feeling well prompts me to remember how important it is to take care of myself — when I feel better I’m going to get back to my self-care goals, I vow! As a reminder, here’s what they are — plus what I’m currently watching and reading as I rest up to feel better.
