Have you seen the videos circulating on social media about the “We Do Not Care (WDNC) Club,” started by creator @justbeingmelani for women in perimenopause and menopause to talk about all the things we no longer care about? Well, I’m going to start the We Do Not Care Club: Holiday Weekend Chapter.

We Do Not Care if everyone else is tagging themselves at Gurney’s in Montauk or some other fabulous, beachside resort or whipping up an Insta-worthy pasta salad for a potluck with 200 of their closest friends. I’ll be at home with my on-a-tight-budget, introverted self in my joggers, enjoying it! I Do Not Care how many curated Memorial Day Weekend festivity photos and videos I see in my feed — I am not going to experience one second of FOMO.

Gone are the days when I used to feel pressure to do something fun over a holiday weekend (or any weekend, for that matter). Now a long weekend just means extra time to do nothing.

And while Memorial Day Weekend is supposed to kick off the summer, where I live in the suburbs of New York City it feels like summer is still months away. It’s been chilly and rainy all month, with no real end in sight on the forecast. So any sliver of beach or barbecue longing I might feel has been quashed by the dreary weather.

These are my very chill, JOMO (the Joy Of Missing Out) based plans for Memorial Day Weekend.
